Skincare products are important, but they cannot correct every sign of aging or sun damage. When fine lines, rough texture, enlarged-looking pores, discoloration, or acne scars require more than another serum, CO₂ laser resurfacing may be the next step.
A CO₂ laser uses a 10,600 nm wavelength to create precise treatment zones in the skin. These controlled areas remove damaged surface tissue and initiate a healing response that supports collagen remodeling.
Fractional CO₂ resurfacing treats microscopic sections of the skin while leaving surrounding areas untreated. This allows the skin to heal between the treatment zones.
CO₂ laser treatments can be adjusted in depth, density, and intensity. This gives us the ability to create a treatment plan based on your skin, concerns, and goals rather than using the same settings for every patient.
The Bloom CO₂ Refresh is our customized, lighter fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing treatment.
It is intended for patients who want to improve skin tone, texture, fine lines, sun damage, and enlarged-looking pores without automatically committing to the recovery associated with a more aggressive CO₂ resurfacing prouThe Bloom CO₂ Refresh is still a medical laser procedur t6e. “Lighter” does not mean completely painless or downtime-free. Redness, warmth, swelling, dryness, and a rough or sandpaper-like texture may occur while the skin heals.
Treatment settings and recovery time vary according to the condition being treated, the treatment area, your skin characteristics, and your desired level of correction.
For patients who want greater correction, Bloom’s CO₂ laser can also provide deeper ablative resurfacing.
This more intensive treatment removes damaged outer layers of skin while delivering controlled energy below the surface to support collagen remodeling. Deeper ablative CO₂ resurfacing may be recommended for:
More pronounced lines and wrinkles
Advanced sun damage
Significant skin texture concerns
Certain acne scars
Uneven pigmentation
Mild skin laxity
Because deeper ablative resurfacing treats the skin more aggressively, it involves more redness, swelling, peeling, aftercare, and downtime than the lighter Bloom CO₂ Refresh.
Recovery varies according to the treatment depth, treatment area, and individual healing response.
During your consultation, we will help you decide whether gradual improvement with lighter fractional resurfacing or a stronger ablative treatment best fits your skin, goals, and available recovery time.
A customized CO₂ laser treatment may improve the appearance of:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Sun damage
Uneven skin tone
Rough or crepey texture
Enlarged-looking pores
Acne scars
Certain textural scars
Dull or damaged skin
Mild skin laxity
CO₂ resurfacing cannot stop the aging process or completely erase every scar or pore. The goal is meaningful improvement in the overall tone, texture, smoothness, and quality of your skin.
The primary differences are treatment intensity, desired correction, and recovery.
The Bloom CO₂ Refresh uses lighter fractional settings and may be appropriate for patients concerned about early signs of aging, sun damage, uneven texture, fine lines, or enlarged-looking pores.
A series of lighter treatments may be recommended when gradual improvement and a shorter recovery period are priorities.
Deeper treatment settings may be considered for more advanced wrinkles, significant sun damage, uneven texture, skin laxity, or certain scars.
More intensive resurfacing generally requires a longer healing period and more involved aftercare.
The strongest treatment is not automatically the best treatment. The right choice is the safest treatment capable of addressing your concerns while fitting your lifestyle, expectations, and available recovery time.
Your appointment begins with an evaluation of your skin and a review of your medical history, medications, recent procedures, current skincare products, and treatment goals.
A topical numbing medication may be applied before the procedure. During treatment, you may experience warmth, prickling, or a snapping sensation as the laser energy is delivered.
The length of the procedure depends on the treatment area and selected settings.
Your skin may initially appear red and feel warm or tight. Swelling, dryness, peeling, and a rough texture may develop during the healing process.
The degree and duration of these effects depend on the treatment intensity and your individual healing response. A lighter Bloom CO₂ Refresh treatment typically has a different recovery profile than deeper ablative resurfacing.
You will receive individualized instructions regarding:
Cleansing and moisturizing
Sun protection
Makeup application
Exercise and heat exposure
Restarting active skincare products
Symptoms that require contacting the office
Do not pick, peel, scrub, or exfoliate healing skin. That is not helping it along—it is an excellent way to irritate your skin and potentially create complications.
Many patients begin noticing smoother, brighter-looking skin after the initial healing phase.
Collagen remodeling occurs gradually, so additional improvement may develop over the following weeks and months.
Some patients may benefit from a series of lighter Bloom CO₂ Refresh treatments. Others may choose a more intensive treatment performed less frequently.
The recommended number of treatments depends on your skin, concerns, treatment intensity, and goals.
CO₂ laser resurfacing may be appropriate for healthy adults who want to address wrinkles, sun damage, uneven texture, enlarged-looking pores, skin laxity, or certain scars.
However, CO₂ laser resurfacing is not appropriate for everyone. Your risk factors and candidacy must be evaluated carefully, particularly if you have:
A history of abnormal scarring
A tendency to develop pigment changes
An active infection or skin irritation
A history of cold sores
Recent tanning or significant sun exposure
A condition or medication that affects healing
A recent aesthetic procedure
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Patients with darker or pigment-prone skin may have a greater risk of post-inflammatory pigment changes after ablative resurfacing. A different treatment, conservative settings, or a pretreatment skincare plan may be recommended.
Preparation varies, but protecting your skin from sun exposure is essential. Avoid tanning before treatment and use broad-spectrum sunscreen consistently.
You may be asked to temporarily hold certain active skincare products. Do not stop prescribed medications unless directed by the prescribing clinician.
Tell Bloom about all medications, supplements, allergies, skin conditions, recent treatments, and any history of cold sores, abnormal scarring, pigment changes, or delayed healing.
CO₂ laser results depend on more than the machine. Proper patient selection, individualized settings, treatment technique, medical oversight, realistic expectations, and appropriate aftercare all matter.
