BOTOX & Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable anti-aging treatments that reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and facial creases. Many injectables can augment your facial features, enhancing your contours and boosting volume in hollow areas, like the cheeks.

Botox is a well-known neuromodulator that smoothes wrinkles by targeting the muscles beneath them. Once injected into a specific muscle, Botox temporarily paralyzes it to prevent contractions. The muscle relaxes and the skin softens, causing the wrinkle to smooth.

Is Botox right for me?

Botox treats different types of wrinkles. The two most common types are:

Dynamic wrinkles

Botox and other neuromodulators address moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles, which develop from muscle movement. Commonly called expression lines, dynamic wrinkles appear in the upper one-third of your face. These include bunny lines (around the nose), crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and frown lines. Botox can also treat horizontal neck bands, slim the face, elongate the jaw, eliminate a gummy smile, provide a lip flip, brow lift, and reduce downturned smiles.

Static wrinkles

Static wrinkles form when your skin loses volume. They tend to appear in the lower part of your face, especially around the mouth, midface, and jawline. While expression lines usually subside when you stop moving your face, static wrinkles remain even when your face is at rest.

What can I expect from treatment with Botox?

Injecting Botox takes only a few minutes at Bloom Health NP. Sheila may apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment to ensure your comfort. After the injections, your skin may be slightly red, bruised, and swollen. These side effects typically subside within a few hours. Botox results can take 3-7 days to take full effect.

How long do Botox lasts?

Botox results last for about 3-4 months before gradually wearing off.
